Possibly proving it’s stripes as a celeb-friendly destination wedding locale, this week the blog is talking about two Mykonos ceremonies. While Jess Shears and Dom Lever, of Love Island reality TV fame, plan to wed in Mykonos this summer, actress Krys Marshall wed fiance Ted Dolan on the Greek isle several months ago.

On Monday, September 18, 2017, the actress best known for roles in This Is Us and upcoming on The CW’s Supergirl, married Dolan in front of 50 guests at Castle Panigirakis, commonly known as Mykonos Castle, from a high-placed lookout called Sunset Bar, with 180-degree ocean views. ““The view spoke for itself, so we didn’t add much [to the venue],” Marshall recently told Brides.com, as part of an exclusive feature on the wedding.

(c) 18 Sep 2017, Betsey Newman: The couple’s natural wedding venue, Sunset Bar at Mykonos Castle, was spectacular.

She wore a strapless ivory Vera Wang gown with a mermaid silhouette and notched neckline, and carried an organic bouquet of white roses and astilbe; her hair was pulled back into a side-parted low-ponytail that held her veil in place. Meanwhile, the groom’s off-white suit and blue shirt matched the white sandstone-painted landscape of the island perfectly.

Marshall walked herself down the aisle, a set of uneven cobblestone steps, in a pair of heels. She and Dolan eschewed the tradition of bridesmaids or groomsmen, opting to keep the wedding as small and casual as possible. For the ceremony, they exchanged handwritten vows that quoted Maya Angelou, Shapkespeare, and Nat “King” Cole. As the newlyweds walked back down the aisle, their guests jubilantly threw rice as classic Greek dance music played.

A reception followed at Alemagou beach bar, a rustic Greek taverna in the island’s west-facing old port district, with magnificent ocean views. Guests sipped wine and signature cocktails, and dined on traditional Greek fare made with fresh, local ingredients. The couple planned most of the wedding from their home in Los Angeles, which Marshall admitted was a test of faith.

“Planning from so far away, it was hard to get to know our vendors or know if they understood our vision. But once we got to Greece, everything exceeded our expectations!” she gushed. Among their closer-to-home vendors was LA-based actress and photographer Betsy Newman, who captured the couple’s special day.

The couple also found time to plan a few surprises for their guests. Though they treated friends and family in Greece for the wedding to several days of excursions and experiences on the island, they kept the stunning location of the ceremony itself from their guests until their wedding day. “We wanted the ceremony to be a ‘wow’ moment,” Marshall said. They also hired a drummer from the UK to pose as a friend of the couple during the weekend, helping him make up a story about how far back he went with the newlyweds. “When our wedding night came, everyone was shocked when he started drumming. They totally fell for it!” said Marshall.

For one last surprise, after guests had swooned while the couple shared their first dance to Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon,” fireworks lit up the sky to celebrate the happy newlyweds, and their successful Greek wedding weekend.

This is Marshall’s first marriage. The couple met through Match.com, and Marshall revealed that Dolan was her 36th first date from the site.
