Singer LeAnn Rimes‘ relationship with Eddie Cibrian was tabloid fodder from the start. They met on the set of lifetime movie Northern Lights in 2009, began an affair, and subsequently ended their marriages to be together. Since then, Cibrian and Rimes, and Cibrian’s ex-wife Brandi Glanville, have aired their family drama through the medium of reality TV.
As such, the couple was anxious to keep their wedding day from becoming a celebrity sideshow. The evening ceremony on Friday, April 22, 2011, was a surprise affair, as the couple had invited just 35 friends and family (including his two sons with Glanville, Mason then 7, and Jake, then 4) to what they had been led to believe was an engagement party. Instead, the couple made their relationship official at a private residence in Malibu, California. Both the ceremony and reception were held in the picturesque backyard overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
They had spent the day eschewing tradition by prepping for the wedding side by side, jamming to tunes like Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.” That is, until the time came for Rimes, then 28, to don her handmade, shimmering champagne Reem Acra gown with thigh-high slit skirt, accessorized with thousands of dollars worth of borrowed jewels.
She wore 10-carat diamond earrings from Neil Lane, and pinned an art deco vintage brooch from the jeweler to her gown at the thigh, emphasizing the slit skirt. The brooch’s price tag was a whopping $250,000. She borrowed $12,000 worth of designer Ippolita’s rose-gold and diamond bangles, which accentuated the tri-band rose gold wedding and engagement rings from jewelry designer Brent Polacheck. Three bands was an important feature for Rimes, who had a fair bit of say in the design of her ring – each band was symbolic of her relationships with Cibrian, then 37, as well as his two sons. Polacheck also designed Cibrian’s wedding ring – sandblasted rose gold with black diamonds on the outer rim.
Cibrian wore and white and black tuxedo by Ermenegildo Zegna. At the candlelight reception planned with the help of Red 25 Events, guests sat at two long wooden glass-top tables in the Malibu home’s beachside backyard. The space was decorated with white flowers and lanterns hung from trees, with love-drenched movie quotes on portable chalkboards. Guests enjoyed a three-tier all-white wedding cake from L.A. bakery My Sweet and Saucy, which spent the night as the centrepiece of a sweets table full of lollipops and hard-candy canes for guests with a sweet tooth. To help keep sand at bay, guests were even given wedding favour flip flops to wear during the ceremony.
Apart from co-parenting Mason and Jake with Glanville, Rimes and Cibrian have no children of their own. At the beginning of April, she wished him a happy anniversay month with a sweet shot on Instagram.
