Tom Welling, 36, who starred for ten years as Clark Kent-turned-Superman on the CW’s cult hit series Smallville, is headed for divorce. On Wednesday, October 16th Jamie White, 44, his wife since July 5, 2002, filed legal papers, TMZ revealed, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. The papers listed the couple’s date of separation as December 2012, and White is seeking spousal support.
Welling and White, a model, met before he found fame as a TV superhero, splitting their time between New York and L.A., where they both worked, and Vancouver, Canada, where Smallville filmed. They were married on Martha’s Vineyard, the Massachusetts island off Cape Cod where Welling bought a home. The private ceremony was attended by friends and family – including his Smallville costars Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum. The bride wore ivory lace, with a flowing veil pinned into her chic chignon hairstyle, and carried a bouquet of white blooms up the aisle, marrying her groom with his black suit and silver tie. (We forgot how big silver ties were back then, but David Boreanaz did it for his 2002 wedding, too.) The couple travelled on their wedding day in a vintage luxury car.
Vancouver became Welling and White’s home base throughout much of their marriage, due to the show’s filming schedule, but when the series ended in March 2011, the couple relocated to L.A. full time. They have no children.
A notoriously private star, Welling has laid low since the end of his TV series. But he recently turned up at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival in September to promote his latest film, Parkland, about the events going on inside Parkland Hospital in Dallas the day President Kennedy was shot, and rushed there for emergency surgery.
(We’d show you a more recent photo of these two, but the truth is they’ve hardly aged a bit in 10 years. So whatever.)
