Of all the celebrity weddings in 2012 – Drew Barrymore, Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, and more – Google has revealed that the most searched celeb nuptuals of the year belonged to Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel (followed by Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively in second, and Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves in third).
Biel, 30, and Timberlake, 31, got engaged last December while vacationing together in Big Sky, Montana, and were wed in front of close friends and family in Italy, with the bride opting for an eye-popping pink gown and the lighthearted wedding photos plastered, in two collector’s edition versions, on the cover of People Magazine. “It was a total fantasy experience,” Biel told the mag.
Of her much talked-about gown, Biel told ELLE post-wedding that she first asked designer Giambattista Valli to make her a certain style in white, but it was the designer who suggested pink instead. What resulted was her custom petal pink strapless gown of silk mousseline and organza with a light pink floral motif. “I wanted the dress to be very romantic and feminine and a shape that I very rarely wear. I have never been crazy about all-white wedding dresses, for me at least,” she admitted. “It was a bit of a leap of faith at the time, but it turned out better than I could have ever imagined. [Putting it on], I felt like I had made the right choice. I felt elegant. And it moved like a dream.” For his part, Timberlake called his pretty-in-pink bride “the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.”
The couple exchanged their romantic, handwritten vows by candlelight on Friday, October, 19th at the exclusive Borgo Egnazia resort in the village of Savelletri di Fasano in the Puglia region of Italy. The ceremony was officiated by their director friend Bill Purple, and they exchanged hammered gold rings designed by Leor Yerushalmi of Jewelers of Las Vegas, which complements Biel’s white gold and black rhodium diamond engagement ring, with aquamarine elements to reflect her birthstone, that Yerushalmi designed with Timberlake’s input. Biel’s former 7th Heaven co-star Beverly Mitchell repaid the favour as a bridesmaid, after Biel served during her own Italian nuptuals in 2008. Timbaland, Jimmy Fallon, and Timberlake’s SNL collaborator Andy Samberg also attended, but none of the former members of N Sync made the invite, and the singer-actor received flak for a wedding video that went viral after the ceremony, which poked fun at the fact so many of Timberlake’s friends had been left off the guest list by using unsuspecting street people to film video messages for the couple.
Though Timberlake, clad in a Tom Ford tux he helped design, wouldn’t turn his wedding into an N Sync reunion, the couple’s love of music was on display throughout the ceremony and reception. The couple shared their first dance to Denny Hathaway’s A Song For You,” The Roots’ Questlove deejayed a mix of 60s classics and hip hop for 100 guests, and Timberlake performed an original song for his bride on piano when she first walked up the aisle on the arm of her father, Jon, clutching a bouquet of. For the guests who made the cut, Timberlake and Biel treated them to a week-long wedding extravaganza on the Adriatic coast, including a beach bash the day before the wedding that including a ten-minute fireworks display. “It was a lot to ask of them to travel,” Timberlake told People. “So we figured we’d give our guests a good party!”
Guests were fed by an al fresco cocktail bar, where hors d’oeuvres such as lobster in turnip tops and mini caparese salads were served. A four-course meal featuring steak and sea bass followed, finished with the classic Italian dessert affogato – a scoop of gelato (Italian ice cream) in a shot of espresso. Guests were also served a four-tier wedding cake. After the ceremony, the couple enjoyed a private honeymoon.
Fashion journalists are declaring pink wedding gowns on trend and say they expect to see more on real-life brides in 2013. Like Biel, celebs like Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway and Gwen Stefani are well-known for wearing pink gowns on their wedding day.
